This Unit, and More to Come

Personally, I like the muscle dance to Ed Sheeran's "I See Fire" more than the bone dance from the beginning of the unit, because I feel that it shows off our skills from warm ups and prior dances more. The part I like the most in the muscle dance is after the big jumps when we are in the clump (the part at the end).  I think this part is our strongest part, even though we haven't perfected it yet. The jumps hurt when we land for the group who does the one where you grab your leg in the air in a tuck and land.

I'm excited to see what Ms. Farrell has in store for us in the next units!

What was your favorite dance this unit?

Dance, A Poem

Let your body free
Let it move through every turn
Every releve
Every plie

Smooth or sharp
Let it all go
Let the worries of your day
Come out for just a moment

You'll feel better
Stronger
Loose
Free

It's what dance does to you
That makes you smile
Sometimes cry from the pain
Angry from your ability
To move like a

Dancer

"First Position"

On Netflix you can find a documentary called "First Position". In the movie the makers of the movie follow around five dancers that work very hard on their careers. In the film it shows us them getting ready for the biggest ballet competition in the wold, the Grand Prix. For dancers like me it is interesting to watch how much time and money ballet dancers put into working on getting into big companies in their future.  The pointe shoes, the tutus, the tuition, and the training all could pay for college, which one of the parents complain about.

It's amazing how far dedicated dancers are willing to go just for their future.

Oh yeah, one more thing... it's pretty gross to see their stretches. They don't look humanly possible.
